title: "KeePassXC 2.1.3 released" date: 2017-03-03T01:30:00+01:00 category: "Releases" author: Janek Bevendorff

Today we released another maintenance release. We expect this to be the last release in the 2.1.x series before 2.2.0.
The release mostly fixes smaller bugs and brings minor user interface improvements.

We also fixed a possible overflow in the external zxcvbn library, which we use for assessing password quality.
We strongly recommend upgrading KeePassXC as soon as possible, but don't believe this issue to be exploitable.

Full list of changes:

title: "Funding an Authenticode code signing certificate" date: 2017-03-04T17:00:00+01:00 category: "Fundraising" author: Janek Bevendorff

To further ensure that you can really trust our Windows and OS X installer and avoid false positives in anti virus scanners,
we would like to acquire a 4-year
Authenticode code signing certificate
and for that we need your help.

Without a code signing certificate, Windows and OS X will always warn users that they are about to install software from
an unknown (and possibly untrustworthy) vendor:

Unfortunately, code signing certificates aren't fee and to collect the needed funds for such a certificate, we need
your financial support. We need to raise $265 in order to be able to buy the certificate. The certificate
will be used to sign our Windows binaries and binaries on other platforms that support Authenticode (primarily Mac OS X).

To allow you to help, we started a Pledgie campaign where you can back us via PayPal.
We would really appreciate if you would be willing to support us with a few dollars and spread the word, so others
can support us, too.

Thank you very much!

Sincerely, your KeePassXC team

author: Janek Bevendorff

The KeePassXC team wants to thank all who have contributed to our Authenticode certificate fundraising. With your
support and additional generous funding from the Linux Fund (thank you especially,
Ilan), we managed to collect all the money needed for purchasing a four-year Authenticode certificate.

The certificate has already been ordered and will be used to sign our next Windows and OS X releases. This will allow
you to easily verify authenticity and integrity of our binary release and prevents warnings about potentially untrusted
software during installation on both platforms. It also allows you to run KeePassXC on systems with a high security
policy which prevents execution of unsigned applications (e.g. AppLocker).

We will of course continue to ship our GPG signatures in addition to the new signed binaries.

The release fixes a compatibility warning with the chromeIPass browser plugin.

The new release is also the first one to ship a signed installer:

title: "KeePassXC 2.2.2 released" date: 2017-10-22T03:00:00+02:00 category: "Releases" author: Janek Bevendorff

Today we announce with KeePassXC 2.2.2 the second patch release for KeePassXC 2.2.x.
This release contains mostly fixes for our AppImage and Snap packages, but als numerous
other bug fixes.

Most notably, users can now use the KeePassXC CLI tool from the AppImage binary by
running it with the cli argument and AppImages now also correctly detect a plugged-in
YubiKey. We also fixed an annoying issue where KeePassXC would always report entries
without URLs to KeePassHTTP browser extensions.

In addition, we redesigned and greatly extended our [list of FAQs]({{< baseurl >}}docs) for you.

Full Changelog:

  • Fixed entries with empty URLs being reported to KeePassHTTP clients [#1031]
  • Fixed YubiKey detection and enabled CLI tool for AppImage binary [#1100]
  • Added AppStream description [#1082]
  • Improved TOTP compatibility and added new Base32 implementation [#1069]
  • Fixed error handling when processing invalid cipher stream [#1099]
  • Fixed double warning display when opening a database [#1037]
  • Fixed unlocking databases with --pw-stdin [#1087]
  • Added ability to override QT_PLUGIN_PATH environment variable for AppImages [#1079]

  • Fixed only one YubiKey slot being polled [#1048]
  • Corrected an issue with entry icons while merging [#1008]

title: "KeePassXC Ubuntu PPA Launched" date: 2017-10-25T14:51:00+02:00 category: "Packages" author: Janek Bevendorff

With our AppImage and Snap release, KeePassXC runs on almost any desktop Linux platform
today. While especially the AppImage is extremely versatile and portable, we
fully understand if users prefer a package that integrates better with their
desktop system. Many Linux distributions already ship KeePassXC as a native package,
but the largest player, Ubuntu, is still left out in the rain.
While a Debian package has been submitted,
it is still hanging in the review queue and will possibly continue to do so for
a while.

Meanwhile to fill the gap, there were excellent
third-party DEB builds by
magkopian (thanks al lot!), but nothing official. This changes now.

We are very excited to announce our own
official Ubuntu PPA!

We support all Ubuntu versions which still receive updates from Canonical. These are:

  • Artful Aardvark (17.10)
  • Zesty Zapus (17.04)
  • Xenial Xerus (16.04 LTS)
  • Trusty Tahr (14.04 LTS)

To install the PPA, install the software-properties-common package and then run:

bash
add-apt-repository ppa:phoerious/keepassxc
apt update
apt install keepassxc

From now on, you will always get the latest KeePassXC version directly through
your package manager, whenever you do an apt upgrade.

The source packages within the PPA are
[signed with our official release key]({{< baseurl >}}verifying-signatures).

Please be aware that at the moment, YubiKeys don't work with 14.04 Trusty Tahr,
because of its outdated YubiKey libraries. We will address this issue soon
by providing more recent versions of the required libraries through the Trusty
PPA (the same which we are already bundling with our AppImage, which is also
build on Trusty Tahr).

Update: The issue has been resolved, YubiKeys now fully work on Trusty.

title: "KeePassXC 2.2.4 released" date: 2017-12-14T10:00:00+01:00 category: "Releases" author: Janek Bevendorff

Today we announce the release of KeePassXC 2.2.4.

This release is purely a stability release. Most importantly, we corrected a critical issue, where database corruption
could occur under specific circumstances and also fixed several minor deployment issues and violations of the
freedesktop specification for our Linux releases.

Besides these fixes, 2.2.4 is also our first signed macOS release. So users of Gatekeeper, cheer up!
You will now be able to directly install and start KeePassXC after downloading it via your favorite browser.

Instead of an error message saying that this application cannot be started, you will now see this:

{{< figure src="blog/images/keepassxc-signed-mac.png" alt="macOS Gatekeeper Signed App" >}}

We are not impressed by how Gatekeeper acknowledges (or rather fails to acknowledge) the fact that this app is indeed
signed, but this should still be a huge improvement for our macOS users.
Also, as you may have noticed from the screenshot, the new signed DMG installer comes with a slightly nicer-looking layout.

Full Changelog:

  • Prevent database corruption when locked [#1219]
  • Fixes apply button not saving new entries [#1141]
  • Switch to Consolas font on Windows for password edit [#1229]
  • Multiple fixes to AppImage deployment [#1115, #1228]
  • Fixes multiple memory leaks [#1213]
  • Resize message close to 16x16 pixels [#1253]

You can download the new release from our [downloads page]({{< baseurl >}}download).
