Prefer this over repeated `find`, `rg --files`, and\nindividual file reads for broad exploration.\n\nChoose the shortest useful workflow:\n\n- If the relevant paths are known, go directly to a grouped source read.\n- For an unfamiliar area, request one entity map, then use its paths and symbols\n to select a grouped read. Reuse the map until relevant source files change.\n- For a small area, reading its source directly can be cheaper than mapping it.\n- If entity extraction is unavailable, use the directory map as a fallback.\n\nAdapt the scope to the task and context budget. Avoid scanning the whole repository\nagain for each question or dumping all source before identifying the relevant area.\n\n## Install the CLI\n\nCheck availability once per environment, not before every read:\n\n```sh\ncode2prompt --version\ncode2prompt --help\n```\n\nFor the sem-backed entity map, use a CLI built with the optional `entity-map`\nfeature. With Rust/Cargo available, build it from the code2prompt repository:\n\n```sh\ncargo install --git https://github.com/mufeedvh/code2prompt \\\n --locked --features entity-map code2prompt\n```\n\nFor ordinary directory maps and source reads, a standard installation is enough:\n\n```sh\n# Choose one available package manager:\ncargo install code2prompt --locked\nbrew install code2prompt\n```\n\nAn existing CLI may list `--entity-map` in its help even when built without the\nfeature; in that case extraction returns no entities. If building with the feature\nis unavailable or unnecessary for the task, continue with ordinary source reads.\nThere is no separate `sem` executable or service to configure: code2prompt uses\n`sem-core` internally.\n\nPrebuilt binaries are available from the\n[GitHub releases](https://github.com/mufeedvh/code2prompt/releases).\nInstalling this skill adds instructions; the CLI is installed separately.\n`pip install code2prompt-rs` installs the Python SDK, not the CLI.\n\n## Map an unfamiliar area\n\nRun from the repository you want to inspect. Replace the example paths and\npatterns below with its actual layout. Set `CODE2PROMPT_SKILL_DIR` to the absolute\ndirectory containing this installed `SKILL.md`; the bundled template is\n[assets/code-map.hbs](assets/code-map.hbs). It is a skill resource, not a file in\nthe repository being analyzed.\n\nFor a source area and its tests:\n\n```sh\ncode2prompt . --include 'src/**' --include 'tests/**' \\\n --exclude '**/*.snap' --entity-map \\\n --template \"$CODE2PROMPT_SKILL_DIR/assets/code-map.hbs\" \\\n --output-file - --quiet\n```\n\nFor an unknown layout, omit the includes and exclude generated/vendor paths, or\nget a directory map first. The template lists selected file paths and extracted\nentities: names, kinds, declaration snippets, parent names, and line ranges. It\ndoes not render full file contents; `--entity-map` with the default template does.\nDeclaration snippets are the first line of an entity and can contain inline code;\nexclude generated/minified files to keep the map useful.\nDo not combine entity extraction with `--exclude '**'` or `--deselected`: files\nmust be selected for code2prompt to parse them.\n\n`(no extracted entities)` means extraction returned nothing or the binary lacks\nthe feature. Some files yield generic `chunk` entries instead of declarations;\nthe template shows their ranges without content snippets. Neither case means the\nfile is irrelevant. Read manifests, documentation, or other such files directly\nas needed. This map is not a dependency graph or semantic text search.\n\nFallback directory map, without file contents:\n\n```sh\ncode2prompt . --full-directory-tree --exclude '**' --output-file - --quiet\n```\n\nThe full tree keeps excluded paths visible while respecting ignore rules and\nskipping hidden entries by default. To reduce this tree, analyze a subdirectory;\ninclude/exclude patterns do not prune a full directory tree.\n\n## Read the selected context together\n\nLoad the relevant implementation and tests together with line numbers:\n\n```sh\ncode2prompt . --include 'src/auth/**' --include 'tests/auth/**' \\\n --exclude '**/*.snap' --line-numbers --output-file - --quiet\n```\n\nRead a small set of specific files when their paths are known:\n\n```sh\ncode2prompt . --include 'README.md' --include 'src/auth/session.ts' \\\n --line-numbers --output-file - --quiet\n```\n\nUse the map to collect the likely implementation, its callers or interfaces, and\nrelated tests in one request. Add another batch only when the returned source\nreveals a missing dependency or leaves a concrete question unresolved. Narrow the\nselection if output is too large or truncated.\n\nFor an exact content match or a small line range within a very large file, use an\nappropriate text search or file-reading tool. code2prompt selects whole files by\npath; it does not offer a symbol-query or line-range CLI selector.\n\n## Useful controls\n\n- Quote glob patterns so the shell does not expand them. Patterns are relative to\n the analyzed directory; repeat `--include` and `--exclude` for multiple patterns.\n Use `**/*.rs` for a language or `src/**` for a subtree.\n- Use `--output-file -` to explicitly send the prompt to stdout, including when\n configuration defaults to clipboard output. `--quiet` suppresses progress and\n summary messages. Avoid `--tui` in automated agent workflows.\n- For structured output, add `--output-format json`. For a larger result, use\n `--output-file` with a temporary file outside the analyzed directory, then read\n that file. Omit `--quiet` to see the estimated token count on stderr.\n The current estimate includes selected file contents even for a template that\n omits their bodies; do not interpret it as the compact map's actual token size.\n- Hidden files require `--hidden`. Ignored files require `--no-ignore`; keep the\n default ignore behavior for ordinary exploration and target any extra files\n explicitly with include patterns.\n- If output differs from the requested scope, rerun without `--quiet` to see which\n configuration was loaded. The CLI reads `.c2pconfig` from the working directory,\n then falls back to the platform's user configuration directory. Supplying any\n CLI include/exclude patterns replaces both configured pattern lists; a configured\n `path` can override the positional directory.\n\nSee the [CLI guide](https://code2prompt.dev/docs/how_to/cli/) for more options.\n","website/src/content/docs/de/docs/references/command_line_options.md":"---\ntitle: Code2Prompt-Befehlszeilenoptionen\ndescription: Ein Referenzhandbuch für alle verfügbaren CLI-Optionen in Code2Prompt.\n---\n\n# Befehlszeilenoptionen\n\n> Diese Seite wurde für Ihre Bequemlichkeit automatisch übersetzt. Use when understanding an unfamiliar repository, locating implementations, gathering context for changes or reviews, or installing code2prompt.\n---\n\n# Code2Prompt\n\nLet code2prompt traverse, filter, parse, and assemble repository context locally.\nUse compact structural maps to choose relevant files, then read the implementation\nand its tests together. Use when understanding an unfamiliar repository, locating implementations, gathering context for changes or reviews, or installing code2prompt.\n---\n\n# Code2Prompt\n\nLet code2prompt traverse, filter, parse, and assemble repository context locally.\nUse compact structural maps to choose relevant files, then read the implementation\nand its tests together. Supplying any\n CLI include/exclude patterns replaces both configured pattern lists; a configured\n `path` can override the positional directory.\n\nSee the [CLI guide](https://code2prompt.dev/docs/how_to/cli/) for more options.\n\n<!-- File: website/src/content/docs/de/docs/references/command_line_options.md (Tokens: ~81 | Category: anthropic-skill) -->\n---\ntitle: Code2Prompt-Befehlszeilenoptionen\ndescription: Ein Referenzhandbuch für alle verfügbaren CLI-Optionen in Code2Prompt.\n---\n\n# Befehlszeilenoptionen\n\n> Diese Seite wurde für Ihre Bequemlichkeit automatisch übersetzt.
