Mac Mouse Fix is an app that makes your mouse better.

I want to turn Mac Mouse Fix into the best mouse driver *of all time*! Some features are still missing at the moment, but I think it already **turns regular mice into the best input devices for Macs** in some ways. At the same level or even better than an Apple Trackpad or a Logitech MX Master mouse.

For more information on how exactly Mac Mouse Fix enhances your mouse, visit the [website](https://macmousefix.com/).

<a name="features"></a>
## Features

See the [website](https://macmousefix.com/#trackpad) for an overview of the features of Mac Mouse Fix, including video demos!

For more details, see the [Releases](https://github.com/noah-nuebling/mac-mouse-fix/releases).

<a name="installation"></a>
## Installation

Download the latest version of Mac Mouse Fix on the [website](https://macmousefix.com/).

You can also install Mac Mouse Fix through [Homebrew](https://brew.sh/)! Just type the following command into the terminal:

```bash
brew install mac-mouse-fix
```

You can download older versions of Mac Mouse Fix under [Releases](https://github.com/noah-nuebling/mac-mouse-fix/releases).

<a name="macos-compatibility"></a>
## macOS compatibility

The latest version of Mac Mouse Fix is made for **macOS 11 Big Sur** or later.

If you're on macOS **10.15 Catalina**, macOS **10.14 Mojave**, or macOS **10.13 High Sierra**, you can use the [latest version of Mac Mouse Fix 2](https://redirect.macmousefix.com/?locale=en&target=mmf2-latest). Mac Mouse Fix 3.0.0 and later might still work on your machine, but they will have visual issues and some features might not work properly.

If you're on macOS **10.12 Sierra**, or **10.11 El Capitan**, you can use Mac Mouse Fix [2.2.0](https://github.com/noah-nuebling/mac-mouse-fix/releases/tag/2.2.0) or below.

<a name="pricing"></a>
## Pricing

See the [website](https://macmousefix.com/#price) for an overview of the pricing for Mac Mouse Fix 3.
Mac Mouse Fix 2 and below will remain free forever.

<a name="uninstallation"></a>
## Uninstallation

Uninstall Mac Mouse Fix by simply moving it to the bin.

However, there will be files left on your system. To get rid of these files I recommend the awesome [AppCleaner by FreeMacSoft](https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/).

Under macOS, it is not feasible for apps to delete these leftover files by themselves when you delete the app. That's why I highly recommend using an app like AppCleaner.

<a name="what-people-say"></a>
## What people say

Thanks so much to everyone sharing their excitement about Mac Mouse Fix!
On the [website](https://macmousefix.com/) you can find a collection of nice things people have said about the app.

<a name="tips"></a>
## Tips

- **Manage windows with a simple Click and Drag**

  [Swish](https://highlyopinionated.co/swish/) is my favorite way to manage windows on macOS. With a simple swipe on your trackpad, it lets you position any window so it takes up half, a quarter, or the whole screen.

  Swish is designed for trackpad gestures, but with Mac Mouse Fix you can use it from any third-party mouse! Just go to Mac Mouse Fix and set any button's 'Click and Drag' action to 'Scroll & Navigate' and then you can snap windows with a simple Click and Drag.

  Anything you can do with a two-finger swipe on an Apple trackpad works just as well with the 'Scroll & Navigate' feature in Mac Mouse Fix.

- **Control Screen Brightness, Audio Volume, or Media Playback right from your mouse**

  Mac Mouse Fix lets you use **any key on your keyboard** directly from your mouse -
  even special keys only found on Apple keyboards that let you control Screen Brightness, Audio Volume, Media Playback, and more.

  If you don't have an Apple keyboard at hand, **hold Option (⌥)** to choose the special Apple keys.

<a name="questions"></a>
## Questions

- **Is Mac Mouse Fix native on Apple Silicon?**

  Yes, Mac Mouse Fix runs 100% native on Apple Silicon.

- **Why is there a delay when I click?**

  When you click, Mac Mouse Fix might wait to see if you're going to double click.
  To remove the delay for a button, delete any 'Double Click' actions for that button.

- **Can I open App Exposé through a Click and Drag Gesture?**

  Yes! Just choose the 'Spaces & Mission Control' Action and then Click and Drag *down*.

  If this doesn't work, it's likely because the 'App Exposé' trackpad gesture is disabled on your Mac.
  You can enable the gesture under System Settings or by running the following command in the terminal:

  ```
  defaults write com.apple.Dock showAppExposeGestureEnabled -bool TRUE; killall Dock
  ```

- **Are there 'App-Specific Settings' or 'Profiles'?**

  In Mac Mouse Fix 2, you can **disable features like Smooth Scrolling** under `More... > App-specific settings`.

  In Mac Mouse Fix 3, this feature doesn't exist yet.
  Both 'app-specific settings' and 'mouse-specific settings' are planned, but I don't have a timeline yet for when they'll be released.

  **Tip:** Until 'app-specific settings' arrive in Mac Mouse Fix 3, you can do this:
  - Open the `General` tab
  - Turn on `Show in Menu Bar`
  - Now you can **disable features like Smooth Scrolling** directly from the Menu Bar

  I'm also interested to hear what your *use case* is. Feel free to submit a [feature request](https://redirect.macmousefix.com/?locale=en&target=mmf-feedback-feature-request). Your input will help make the feature as good as possible once it arrives.

- **Is my mouse supported?**

  Probably. If you want to know for sure, it's best to download Mac Mouse Fix and try it out.

  Mac Mouse Fix works very well with most mice. However, on certain mice designed to be used with proprietary driver software like Logitech Options, Mac Mouse Fix can't recognize all the buttons at the moment.

  That's because these mice communicate with your computer using a special, proprietary protocol, instead of the standard USB protocol.
  I would love to add full compatibility for these mice at some point, but it's a ton of work and it won't be coming soon.

- **Some buttons on my mouse are not recognized**

  See the question **'Is my mouse supported?'** above.

- **Is the Magic Mouse supported?**

  I might add features in the future which enhance the Apple Magic Mouse, but currently, Mac Mouse Fix has no effect on it.

- **Are tiltable scroll wheels supported?**

  Some mice let you tilt the scroll wheel left or right to scroll horizontally. Mac Mouse Fix will make this feel more natural and easy to control. However, it's not currently possible to trigger other actions, such as switching between desktops, by tilting the scroll wheel. I'd love to implement this feature at some point, but it's a ton of work and it won't be coming soon.

- **Turning off pointer acceleration**

  Mac Mouse Fix doesn't let you turn off the pointer acceleration, but if you're on **macOS 14 Sonoma** or later, you can turn off the pointer acceleration under `System Settings > Mouse > Advanced... > Pointer acceleration`.

  I plan to add really nice ways to improve pointer acceleration in the future, but I'm not sure when that's coming.

- **What's the difference between Mac Mouse Fix 2 and 3?**

  **Monetization:**
  Mac Mouse Fix 2 is 100% free, and I plan to keep supporting it.
  Mac Mouse Fix 3 is free for 30 days, then costs a few bucks to own.

  **Features:**
  Here's a [feature comparison](https://redirect.macmousefix.com/?locale=en&target=mmf-version-2-vs-3). I wrote it shortly after Mac Mouse Fix 3 released – so it may be slightly out of date.
  You can also download Mac Mouse Fix [2](https://redirect.macmousefix.com/?locale=en&target=mmf2-latest) and [3](https://macmousefix.com/) for free to evaluate them yourself!

- **Does Mac Mouse Fix collect my data?**

  Mac Mouse Fix does not have ads, and it does not collect any personal information about you.

  However, at the moment that you buy the app, the sales provider Gumroad.com collects some personal info, such as your email address, and this info is visible to me. This is necessary to be able to issue refunds, send a license key to your email, etc. I cannot turn this off. To learn more about the data collected when you buy Mac Mouse Fix, see the [Gumroad Privacy Policy](https://gumroad.com/privacy).

- **How many devices can I use my license on?**

  Your license works on **all your Macs**.
  The goal is that you can just buy a license, activate it, and never have to worry about it again.
  If you log in with the same Apple Account, the license will even sync automatically to your other devices via iCloud!

  If you encounter problems activating your license, you can [send me an email](https://redirect.macmousefix.com/?locale=en&target=mailto-noah).
  I sometimes take a while to answer. I'm sorry about this. But I will get back to you!

  There is one restriction:
  Licenses are not meant to be shared publicly. One license is meant for one person. Publicly shared licenses might be invalidated. (Sharing with your mom is ok.)

- **Will my license work with future versions?**

  Your license covers all Mac Mouse Fix 3.x versions.

  Future versions, like 4.0, may require a new purchase, but I'll try to avoid this, unless it's necessary to support the continued development of the app.

- **Is there a refund policy?**

  There is no official refund policy, but the app is free for 30 days.

  If you experience any problems after buying the app, just reach out to me, and I will do my best to help.

- **Will Mac Mouse Fix still be Open Source now that it's monetized?**

  Yes, Mac Mouse Fix will still be open source!

  I encourage anyone to use the source code of Mac Mouse Fix in their own projects, as long as they don't release a simple copy of Mac Mouse Fix.

  Learn about the details in the [MMF License](https://github.com/noah-nuebling/mac-mouse-fix/blob/master/License) which Mac Mouse Fix 3 and later are licensed under.

- **Can I get Mac Mouse Fix for free if I already donated?**

  Yes! If you donated via PayPal, click [here](https://redirect.macmousefix.com/?locale=en&target=mmf-apply-for-milkshake-license) to receive a **free license**.

- **Contributing money**

  I hope to be able to sustain myself financially through Mac Mouse Fix. That way, I can keep improving and working on the app. If you would like to help, you can:
  1. Buy Mac Mouse Fix by clicking the button in the app, or clicking [here](https://noahnuebling.gumroad.com/l/mmfinappusd).
  2. [Tip me](https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=ARSTVR6KFB524&source=url&lc=en_US) on PayPal. I don't get a lot of money from this, but it's always cute and motivating to get a donation.
  3. [Sponsor me](https://github.com/sponsors/noah-nuebling) on GitHub. A monthly sponsorship is a great way to support the project and help me have a more stable income.

- **Adding translations**

  Mac Mouse Fix is available in English, German as well as the languages listed in the [Acknowledgements](Acknowledgements.md).

  If you would like to **help translate the project**, see the [Translation Guide](https://redirect.macmousefix.com/?target=mmf-localization-contribution).
  If you want to **report missing or suboptimal translations**, that's also very helpful. The best way to report problems is by commenting under the [Translation Guide](https://redirect.macmousefix.com/?target=mmf-localization-contribution).

- **Contributing code**

  If you would like to contribute code, that's awesome! I'll be happy about any [pull requests](https://github.com/noah-nuebling/mac-mouse-fix/pulls).

  However, I might not accept all pull requests. If you want to make sure that your work is not wasted, you can submit an initial pull request that only *describes* the changes you want to make, but contains little or no code. Then I can give you feedback and tell you if I would adopt the changes you want to make in that way.

**Thank you** to everyone who has already contributed and supported me in trying to make the best mouse driver *of all time*! :)🚀

## File: Frameworks/README.md

- This folder is for manually added (copy pasted) frameworks
- In the update-feed branch, we're using command line tools from the Sparkle project.
   -> It might be good if the copy of the Sparkle project in update-feed is the same version as Sparkle.framework in this branch. (And to also keep stuff in sync with other active development branches, like the version-2 branch, and master branch)

- Originally, we used Sparkle 1.26.0
- In 21. May 2024, we switched to the latest Sparkle 1.27.3 (On both `version-2` (MMF 2) and `master` (MMF 3) branches)
    - We decided against using SPM, because I feel like this gives me more control and transparency? Maybe on MMF 3 it makes more sense to use SPM, since we're already using it there?
- On [Jul 5 2025] I updated mac-mouse-fix/master from Sparkle 1.27.3 to a custom build of Sparkle 1.27.3 which visually improves the SUUpdate alert (increased vertical margins and improved border around the release-notes).
    - Reason for these changes:
        - The border looked jarring on macOS Tahoe Beta 2, and couldn't keep myself from adjusting the margins, too.
    - Building our customized Sparkle 1.27.3 from source:
        - Checkout noah-nuebling/Sparkle:master (including submodules)
        - Run `make release`
        - Extract Sparkle.framework from `Sparkle-1.27.3.tar.xz`
    - Also see:
        - My pull request for the release-notes-border-changes which was rejected, but maintainer Zorg kindly gave useful tips and explained advantages of Sparkle 2: https://github.com/sparkle-project/Sparkle/pull/2740
        - My commit messages inside noah-nuebling/Sparkle:master
    - Why fork Sparkle 1 and not upgrade to Sparkle 2?
        - We're customizing Sparkle 1 since that's currently less work than upgrading to Sparkle 2 and Sparkle 1 still works fine. I haven't really looked into how hard upgrading to Sparkle 2 would be.

<a name="features"></a>
## Funktionen

<a name="installation"></a>
## Installation

```bash
brew install mac-mouse-fix
```

<a name="macos-compatibility"></a>

<a name="pricing"></a>
## Preisgestaltung

<a name="uninstallation"></a>
## Deinstallation

<a name="what-people-say"></a>
## Was die Leute sagen

<a name="tips"></a>
## Tipps

<a name="questions"></a>
## Fragen

  ```
  defaults write com.apple.Dock showAppExposeGestureEnabled -bool TRUE; killall Dock
  ```

- **Gibt es 'App-spezifische Einstellungen' oder 'Profile'?**

  In Mac Mouse Fix 2 kannst du **Funktionen wie flüssiges Scrollen abstellen** unter `More… > App-specific settings`.

- **Sammelt Mac Mouse Fix meine Daten?**

  Deine Lizenz funktioniert auf **all deinen Macs**.

  Deine Lizenz deckt alle Mac Mouse Fix 3.x Versionen ab.

## Future Plans – Fully Offline Licenses (Bought From Stripe) [Jan 2026]
    (Not sure I wrote about this somewhere else [Jan 2026])

    Scheme:
        First part of the license key is a license id (counter)
        Second part of the license key is a signature
        (The app itself would contain a public key, that could verify the counter against the signature.)

        Length
            - Claude says 128 bits is enough for very good security.
                - Examples / encodings
                    - Hex:        7A3F9C2E8B1D4F6A7C3E9B2D8F1A4C6E            (-> 32 chars, -> Nice)
                    - Emoji:      🦆🌵🔥🎺🦑🌙🍕🎸🐙🪐🦋🎭🌺                (-> 13 chars, -> Fun, -> Recognizable, -> Somewhat hand-enterable)
                    - Braille:    ⠓⠊⠑⠗⠕⠛⠇⠽⠏⠓⠊⠑⠎⠂⠃⠁                          (-> 16 chars, -> Spooky, -> Compact)
                    - Dashes:     7A3F-9C2E-8B1D-4F6A-7C3E-9B2D-8F1A-4C6E     (-> 32 chars, -> hand-typeable, -> Feels too busy at this length)
            - Lower than 128?: If we go lower than 128 it might be somewhat easy to keygen says Claude. Not sure what the right tradeoff is.
                Thought: Keygen is worse than people uploading cracked app (since cracked app won't get cracked updates)
                Also see: Windows XP discussion below.

        Notes:
            - Windows XP used a similar scheme for their license keys (Says Claude)
                - Length: 25 (XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX – I think this is the MS key format to this day)
                - Bits: 55 (Says Claude, I don't really understand)
                - Cracking difficulty: Private keys was computed in "6 hours on a Celeron 800".
                    -> Does that mean we also shouldn't care as much about cracking / keygen?
                - "Sparsity" stuff: "Microsoft limited the value of the signature to 55 bits in order to reduce the amount of matching product keys"
                    -> I don't understand this.

        Update: [Jan 2026]
            New Idea:
                - Use a short, normal-looking license key, but embed a zero-width character sequence that serves as the signature.
                     -> Normal, length, normal-looking keys
                     -> Can offline validate in the usual case, where ppl just copy-paste from their email
                     -> If zero-width validation fails (e.g. due to ppl hand-copying the key, or email-client corrupting zero-width chars), we can still validate with the server.
            Problem:
                We can't do activation counting at all.
                    -> If a key is publicly shared, we can't really detect that or do anything about it.
                        ... Except maybe if we make server-validation the default and offline validation the fallback?

            Clarity: The whole motivation behind this is a person who emailed us about not being able to activate due to corporate network.
                -> Maybe we can find a better solution to that problem.
                Ideas:
                    -> Maybe Stripe won't be blocked anyways?
                    -> Maybe the app could export an offline license or something? (which could consume an activation)
                    -> Maybe we could provide special offline license for corporate users (instead of making it the default)
                    -> Maybe we just send corporate users a special build with no license activation?

## Async/Await

[Jun 25 2025]
    For the licensing code in MMF, we want to use async/await, but we also want *everything* to always run on the main thread.

    For MMF 3.0.4, I tried to do that with code like this `Task.detached(priority: .background), operation: { @MainActor in ...`
        However, this does NOT work, at all. This code is not guaranteed to execute on the main thread.

    Instead, there are 2 things we need to do:
    1. Make sure the initial entry into Swift Concurrency runs on the main thread
        - The internet says you can use `Task { await MainActor.run { ...` or `Task { @MainActor in ...` for this. However, ppl on the internet also said that `Task.detached { @MainActor in` works and I just observed that *not* working.
    2. Make sure that whenever `await` is used, the awaited code runs on the main thread.
        - Awaited code decides where it runs [1], so the only way to have it run on the main thread is to annotate *all* the async functions with @MainActor
            - Tip: you can also annotate the parent struct/class with @MainActor and all children will inherit @MainActor.

    Sidenote:
        - It seems that @MainActor has two effects:
            1. On async functions, it causes them to be run on the main thread
            2. On normal functions, it turns on some compiler checks to prevent you from calling it from a non-main thread.

    References:
        - [1] Core rules for where things run and how @MainActor works: https://forums.swift.org/t/determining-whether-an-async-function-will-run-on-the-main-actor/60749/2
        - [2] Task.detached article: https://www.hackingwithswift.com/quick-start/concurrency/whats-the-difference-between-a-task-and-a-detached-task

    REMEMBER:
        - Do not use `Task.detached`
        - Annotate everything with `@MainActor`
        - Validate using `assert(Thread.isMainThread)`

# iOS-Polynomial-Regression
Objective-C function for calculation the polynomial regression of a given dataset.

There are no mathematical data analysis functions in Objective-C and I couldn't find a suitable math framework for this task. For my thesis I require a function to calculate the polynomial regression of a give data set. Since this function didn't exist I had to write it myself. Problem was that other programming languages usually have this implemented by default as some kind of "polyfit" function so I dind't really had an example to base myself on.

So I had to go into the math and figure out how to turn it into an algorithm. A hellish job I wouldn't recommend to anyone. I programmed an Objective-C function for the calculation the polynomial regression of a given dataset which is extremely easy to use.

You have to give an array of NSNumber for the x values and y values and the desired degree of polynomial you would like to aquire. The function will return an NSMutableArray containing the polynomial constants.

## Overview
* [Features](#features)
* [Example](#example)
* [Implementation](#implementation)
* [Donation](#donate)
* [License](#license)
* [Warranty](#warranty)

## Features
- Can calculate any degree of polynomial
- Easy to implement
- Very compact, one line usage
- Also contains a custom matrix class for this project which handles doubles

## Example

    NSMutableArray *x = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 0]];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 9]];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 13]];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 15]];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 19]];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 20]];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 26]];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 26]];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 29]];
    [x addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 30]];

    NSMutableArray *y = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];

    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 1]];
    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: -7]];
    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 6]];
    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 12]];
    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: -4]];
    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: -12]];
    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: -2]];
    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 13]];
    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 23]];
    [y addObject: [NSNumber numberWithDouble: 30]];

    int degree = 6;
    NSMutableArray *regression = [PolynomialRegression regressionWithXValues: x AndYValues: y PolynomialDegree: degree];

    NSLog(@"The result is the sum of");

    for(int i = 0; i < [regression count]; i++) {
        double value = [[regression objectAtIndex: i] doubleValue];
        NSLog(@"%f * x^%d", value, i);
    }

Generates the following output in console
```
2015-03-22 19:52:48.751 PolynomialRegression[2701:111554] The result is the sum of
2015-03-22 19:52:48.752 PolynomialRegression[2701:111554] 1.011300 * x^0
